Although the surprising results of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), a 15-year project involving 161,808 women aged 50 to 79, have caused many women (and many men, for that matter) to question the value of a healthy diet, most physicians and nutritionists still emphasize the importance of eating sensibly. Not sure what this means? The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, released in January 2005, is a good place to start. Read our feature, “Rebuilding the Pyramid,” to learn more about the new pyramid and how it can help you take steps to a healthier lifestyle.
You’ll also want to check out the WHI-related content on Infoaging. The What’s Hot section presents the results of the research, while the feature found in Learn More, “What the Women’s Health Initiative Findings Mean to You,” explains why women shouldn’t abandon low-fat diets or stop taking calcium/vitamin D supplements.
And don’t forget to peruse The Basics section for a general overview of nutrition what it is, how it’s related to aging and how it can prevent certain diseases.
